“Ich bin ein sterbendes Konversationslexikon, jedes Wort ein Klumpen Blut.”
In Quartett, Heiner Müller masterfully re-cut the sinister 18th-century epistolary novel Les liaisons dangereuses into a feverish ritual between Valmont and Merteuil. They re-enact their injuries and escapades in role plays, in which they use words and sex to outmanoeuvre each other. Quartett turns Müller’s text into a podcast that creates a dark and hypnotizing auditory landscape around the self-destructive characters from Liaisons. The music by Roy Orbison, Olivier Messiaen, Franz Schubert, Francis Poulenc, Anton Webern, Iggy Pop and electronic compositions by Jo Thielemans drag you into an apocalyptic playground full of longing and fear.
